179

In her own words, 179 describes her creative process as, "Idea.  Spark!  That would be cool!  Color!  Look at that shape!  Look at that patern, ooooooh I like that color." - 179

"I feel most inspired by nature and ready to create when I feel comfortable.  Everything has to be just so, just right.  If there are dishes to be cleaned, paint to be color coordinated, or if people are on-site walking around confused, you better believe I'm pointing them in the right direction before I can zone out and focus.  This kind of centering takes foresight, a tool I learned to utilize from the beginning, to help myself by anticipating others needs, to avoid interruptions."   - 179

From her own perspective, 179 describes the unique role of graffiti in the arts as an example of how public art and its community should exist and evolve hand-in-hand.  A public work of art should interact directly with people, and invoke thought that inspires others to observe something new everyday.  The dificulty with art exhibited in a traditional gallery setting is the dietatchment created by the audience viewing the artworks out of context and from too great a distance.  Instead, I desire to create a dynamic and interactive environment that invites participation and wonder.

Based out of Seattle, WA, graffiti artist 179, aka Angelina Villalobos, met Few&Far in Oakland when Hops, Ksera, and Foes roadtripped down from Seattle to collaborate on a mural larger than life.  "That's what Few&Far has become, larger than life, pushing our own expectations, and collectively exceeding others." -179   She has been with Few&Far for 3 years, and painted during Art Basel Miami for two years prior.

Her artistic inspiration is primarily music.  "I'm a geat appreciator of all music, and not like people that say, "music," and then say, "except Country," those people don't really know music or the art of appreciation....I mean I appreciate the making of it, the technical aspects, the talent, the beat, the soul, the electronic, and the dance.  I may not like all of it, but I'll give anything a try without preconceptions!  Elizabeth Cotton's Freight Train really speaks to me." - 179

179 has been an artist since she can remember, and plans on doing art 'til she can't breath.  179's heroes are "My Rudy and My Sue," and her favorites include, the color green, the wolf, Vietnamese cuisine, Barcelona, and the book Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya.

179's medium : speaker jack to her music or podcast, books for inspiration, paints all around, never know what might be needed, cider cuz it tastes good, and solitude.  Everyone is out for the night, Corey with the boys, Mercedes with her mom.  Solitude.  Yes.
