AGANA

"I feel most inspired to create when I'm smashing on a larger than life wall with Few&Far, and my artistic inspirations include musical mashups, new genres and old classics." - Agana

Vanessa Espinoza, known as "DJ AGANA",  is a Venezuelan-American female aerosol artist and digital audiovisual specialist residing in the Bay Area, with a background in jewelry metal arts, and a B.A. in animation and special FX, who applies her skills designing interactive educational games and media art applications.  Agana began educating, mentoring and motivating youth to create public art with a purpose while painting with Visual Element; a large scale mural arts program that provides training for young artists.

For over a decade she has exercised her knowledge of digital media and creative arts with young Bay Area artists, encouraging them to tell their unique stories through mural painting, film and animation.  Agana has been a member of Few and Far Women since it originated in Oakland, CA in 2011 and has painted annually with their empowering movement in the Wynwood Art District of Miami Art Basel.

Agana is a member of TDK, The Dream Krew, who originated in Oakland during the early 80's by Mike Francisco "Dream".  She was the singular female to paint the battle word "dream" in the 2013 Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle.  Agana belongs to the earliest known organized graffiti crew in the history of aerosol art dedicated to writing, EX-VANDALS 1970, NYC. She is also a member of WOTS crew, Wizards of the Styles from NYC. Her goal is to reach endless audiences with visual landscapes that cultivate art for thought and action by visually raising current issues and topics that tell untold stories from a female perspective of resilience.

In her own words, Agana describes her work as "female - centric symbols of culture, healing... reclaiming our own visual identity...cultivating art for thought and action..... images with a message behind them to connect the eyes, heart and mind. Taking advantage of a wall made to separate..... and transforming the surface into a via for unity of its surrounding communities."  - Agana

Agana describes her creative process as,

"deconstructing a constructed border originally built to separate us, and using it to unify the community.  Writing to organize the hood, unite cultures, and channel mental liberation.  A function of a message behind its form, words and images that empower, uplift, transform, and spread knowledge of self-love and determination." - Agana
